Taiwo Awoniyi’s Scary Injury Puts Him into a Coma.

Nottingham Forest striker Taiwo Awoniyi is currently in an induced coma following a nasty abdominal injury that’s left the club and fans holding their breath.
It all went down in the dying moments of Forest’s fiery 2-2 clash against Leicester at the City Ground. With just minutes to spare, Awoniyi lunged to connect with a cross from Anthony Elanga and slammed hard into the post. A heroic effort, but it came at a terrifying cost.
The 27-year-old Nigerian international was subbed in late and barely had time to make an impact before tragedy struck. The medics rushed in, treating him right on the pitch as the stadium watched in stunned silence. Monday night, he went under the knife for the first round of surgery. The good news? Forest reports he’s “recovering well.” But he’s not out of the woods yet. Phase two of the operation is set for Wednesday.
Let’s talk about that offside call. Elanga was offside when he picked up the ball. But under current rules, assistant refs keep the flag down until the play finishes, just in case a goal happens. Makes sense, right? Well, not when players’ lives are on the line. This delayed-flag protocol might be VAR-friendly, but critics argue it’s putting players like Awoniyi in danger for the sake of TV drama.
Forest’s owner, Evangelos Marinakis, wasn’t having it. He stormed onto the pitch post-match to grill manager Nuno Espirito Santo on how the situation was handled. And you can bet he’s staying closely updated on his striker’s condition.
Awoniyi, who has netted 19 goals in 83 appearances for Forest in all competitions.
