Nakuru Man Found Guilty of Killing Neighbor in Suspected Love Triangle

A man in Nakuru has been convicted of murder after attacking and killing his neighbor, whom he discovered hiding under his bed in what was believed to be a love triangle. Justice Samuel Mohochi delivered the ruling, ending a nearly two-year-long court battle and declaring Cyrus Kipng’eno Rono guilty of the crime.
“How the body of the deceased was found is indicative of the depth of violence he suffered at the hands of the accused,” Justice Mohochi noted. He added, “I find the accused, Cyrus Kipng’eno Rono, guilty of the offence of murder contrary to Section 203 as read with Section 204 of the Penal Code, and he is hereby convicted accordingly.”
What Happened on the Night of the Incident?
On August 29, 2023, Rono was working as a night guard in Kiamunyeki when he attempted to reach his wife by phone without success. He left work early and arrived home at around 9 p.m. After knocking on his bedroom door for several minutes, his wife eventually emerged looking unsettled. Suspicious, Rono searched the room and found his neighbor, Moody Awori, half-dressed and hiding under the bed.
In a fit of rage, Rono attacked Awori with a machete. Evidence presented in court revealed that the victim suffered multiple stab wounds to the neck and limbs. Rono then went to Lanet Police Station to report the incident and led officers back to the scene, where he was arrested.
What Did the Postmortem Reveal?
Government pathologist Titus Ngulungu testified that Awori died from severe head injuries caused by both blunt and sharp force trauma. His report confirmed the brutality of the attack.
With the conviction secured, Rono now awaits sentencing. The ruling underscores how personal disputes escalating into violence can lead to life-altering consequences, not only for the victim but also for the perpetrator.
