Two women accused of drugging and robbing a nightclub patron of valuables worth Sh329,900 in Ruai have been arraigned at the Makadara Law Courts. The suspects, identified as Ann Nyambura Macharia and Joyce Nduta Gichuri, are said to have lured the complainant, Edward Gikunju Wanjohi, with the promise of a “good business deal” before allegedly stupefying him and stealing from him.

How Did the Alleged Drugging and Robbery in Ruai Happen?

According to court records, Wanjohi had been out drinking with his friends until around 3 a.m. on September 10, 2025, when the two women approached their table. Introducing themselves as businesswomen, they told Wanjohi they had a deal worth discussing. While his friends left unimpressed, he agreed to join them.

Moments later, Wanjohi reportedly lost consciousness. He woke up the next day in a lodging, where staff said the women had booked him in, claiming one was his sister and the other his girlfriend. He found himself naked, weak, and dizzy, only to discover that his iPhone 16, another phone, and cash from his M-Pesa account were gone. Investigations later showed Sh192,200 had been withdrawn without his consent.

Wanjohi sought help from a friend, who assisted him in filing a police report. He was referred for medical examination, and detectives began investigations that eventually led to the arrest of Nyambura and Gichuri.

What Charges Do the Suspects Face in Court?

The two women were charged with robbery and stupefying with intent to steal. They appeared before Chief Magistrate Kennedy Bidali, where they both denied the charges. The court granted them a bond of Sh200,000 each and ordered them to return for a hearing set for March 17, 2026.

The Directorate of Criminal Investigations confirmed that the case is still under investigation, as drugging and robbery incidents targeting revellers in Nairobi continue to raise security concerns in entertainment spots.
