A new Barna Group study reveals a growing faith resurgence among Gen Z and Millennial men, signaling what could be the beginning of a spiritual revival across the United States. Once labeled the “least religious generation,” Gen Z men are now attending church more frequently than Millennial men, marking a notable generational shift that has caught researchers’ attention.

Barna’s vice president of research, Daniel Copeland, described the trend as “good news for church leaders,” explaining that spiritual renewal is reshaping the outlook of younger generations. Experts suggest that many young men are stepping away from “a virtual world run by algorithms and dating apps” and turning toward community spaces that offer meaning and authenticity.

However, while men are returning to church, the data show that young women are leaving at higher rates. Many cite growing mistrust toward traditional institutions as a major factor. Analysts believe that broader cultural and ideological changes, particularly within universities, may be driving this divide.

Despite the gender differences, overall interest in faith appears to be rising nationwide. Bible sales increased by 22% in 2024, and more than 20% of Gen Z report reading scripture more regularly. These figures suggest that a quiet spiritual awakening may already be taking place, fueled by a desire for deeper purpose in an increasingly digital and disconnected world.

The numbers hint at something significant: a generation once thought to be drifting from faith may, in fact, be leading its revival.
