Gengetone Artist Shalkido in Critical Condition After Accident

Gengetone artist Shalkido, famously known for the catchphrase “Shalkido mi huspin na mayeng,” is in critical condition after being involved in an accident. The news was first shared by media personality Oga Obinna, who revealed that the former member of the Sailors Gang had been rushed to the hospital for treatment.
“Shalkido is critical in the hospital. Apparently, he had an accident today early morning. Will update on what happened, where, how, and why. Na tuliwachana vizuri today morning. Keep him in your prayers, kindly,” Obinna said. While the cause and location of the accident remain unclear, concern continues to grow over Shalkido’s health.
What Led to Shalkido’s Recent Struggles?
The accident comes barely a month after Shalkido publicly shared his financial struggles. The Ni Tekenye hitmaker revealed that he had reached his breaking point as a father after trying several hustles without success. He posted a photo of his modest living conditions and appealed for help, saying he would be grateful for a motorbike to start a boda boda business to support his family.
His plea moved many Kenyans, including comedian Eric Omondi, who used donations from fans under his Sisi Kwa Sisi initiative to buy Shalkido a new motorbike. Eric later shared a video of himself unwrapping the bike and officially handing it over to the struggling singer.
In an exclusive interview, Shalkido admitted that poor financial literacy during the peak of his fame was a major factor in his downfall. While popular radio host Mwalimu Rachel secured the group well-paying gigs, Sailors Gang assumed the money would never run out. When the group split, Shalkido found himself financially stranded.

How Did Shalkido’s Journey Take Such a Turn?
After leaving Sailors Gang, Shalkido tried almost every hustle to support his young family, from riding boda bodas to construction jobs, but none worked out. At one point, he told his wife to return to her mother’s place and left their house with only KSh 80 in his pocket. “I boarded a matatu and decided that whichever town I alighted at, I would start a new life there. I won’t say which town it was, but when I got there, I looked for a job as a watchman,” he recounted.
“Unfortunately, it didn’t last because the employer accused me of trying to get close to his wife. He chased me away with the mattress and bedding you saw me with, and I decided enough was enough.” He also revealed he had previously attempted to take his life multiple times, including drinking poison and throwing himself onto a busy road from a footbridge.
Obinna has been one of the few public figures to stand by him, helping him settle into a fully furnished house and even securing an ambassadorial deal. During his show, Obinna personally gifted Shalkido essential household items, including a brand-new sofa, mattress, and plush carpet.
Shalkido’s accident now adds to a series of challenges he has faced, leaving his fans and the music industry rallying behind him for support and prayers as he fights for his recovery.
