Muthee Kiengei Slams Network Provider After Signal Glitch Disrupts Fundraiser for Viral Star Kaluma Boy

A Sunday fundraiser at JCM Church headquarters along the Eastern Bypass turned tense after a sudden internet outage interrupted donations for viral content creator Kaluma Boy. The service, led by Bishop Benson Gathungu Kamau, popularly known as Muthee Kiengei, was organized to help Kaluma Boys’ ailing father, who has been battling complications from a stroke.

Kiengei did not hold back his frustration, calling out the network provider for the untimely disruption. “To our network provider, our people at JSM are people of respect and direction. Please, because we want to raise money for this family of Kaluma Boy, restore the network so that we can help this family,” he said during the October 5 service.

What Did Kenyans Do to Support Kaluma Boy?

The young content creator captured national attention after documenting how he has been caring for his sick father since August 2024. His authenticity and resilience inspired thousands, leading to a nationwide show of support. On September 28, well-wishers flocked to his rural home with donations, food, and words of encouragement.

During the fundraiser, Bishop Kiengei announced that The East African University (TEAU) had awarded Kaluma Boy a full scholarship to study sales and marketing. “Dr. Christopher Mutembei, the Vice Chancellor of The East African University, confirmed this morning that Kaluma Boy has been granted a full scholarship. He will study sales and marketing to enhance his digital marketing skills,” the bishop revealed.

How Has the Experience Changed Kaluma Boy’s Life?

An emotional Kaluma Boy thanked Kenyans for transforming his life, saying, “I thank Kenyans for supporting me. Thank you all very much, and may God bless you. On behalf of my family, we are grateful and blessed.”

He also shared that his viral video was never meant as a call for help but to show his father’s recovery journey. “After my father got sick, he went into a coma for three months. It’s been hard for us. The medications are expensive,” he said.

His mother, Beatrice Wangechi, expressed deep gratitude, noting that the kindness shown to their family restored her faith in humanity. “I have come to appreciate both the importance of talent and the power of mobile phones in ways I never imagined,” she said.

The East African University, located in Kitengela, Kajiado County, is a fully chartered institution accredited by the Commission for University Education (CUE), marking a new chapter of hope for one of Kenya’s most inspiring young creators.
