Catholic Nun Appears in Meru Court over Murder of Fellow Nun

A Meru court is set to determine whether to detain or release Sister Caroline Kanjiru, a Catholic nun accused of being involved in the killing of her colleague, Sister Ansilime Karimi from Nkabune. The case has drawn public attention as investigators seek clarity on the events surrounding the death.

During a court session on Tuesday, police officer Abdul Tulla urged the court to detain Sister Caroline for 14 days to allow for a thorough investigation. He described her as a potential flight risk and told the court that her earlier statement on the death raised concerns.

What Led to the Nun’s Arrest?

According to Tulla, Sister Caroline had initially claimed that she took Sister Ansilime to Nkubu Hospital after she fell ill and that the deceased died on the way. However, preliminary investigations revealed that the late nun had bruises on her hands and legs, suggesting possible foul play.

The prosecution requested the two-week detention period to piece together all details of the case, while Sister Caroline’s lawyer opposed the request, arguing that she was not a flight risk and should be granted bond. The court is expected to rule on whether she will remain in custody or be released as investigations into the shocking murder continue.
