Main Suspect in Moi University Student Sheryl Ohanga’s Murder Detained

Cliff Ocharo, the main suspect in the murder of Moi University student Sheryl Ohanga, has been remanded for four days by the Nyamira Law Court as police continue with their investigations. The decision was made during his court appearance on Tuesday before Magistrate Beryl Achieng.

Ocharo was not required to take a plea after the court granted investigators additional time to conduct a mental assessment and finalize the post-mortem examination. He will remain in custody at Nyamira Police Station as authorities’ piece together the events leading to the tragic death of the young university student.

The prosecution told the court that crucial evidence was still being gathered and that expert reports, including the suspect’s mental evaluation, were necessary before formally charging him. The court agreed, citing the importance of a complete investigation to ensure justice for Sheryl Ohanga and her family.

The case is scheduled for mention on Friday, October 17, when Ocharo is expected to appear again to face murder charges. Until then, detectives will continue compiling evidence as the investigation enters its final stages. The court’s decision underscores the need for thoroughness and accuracy in handling such sensitive cases, particularly those that have drawn public concern and outrage.
