Young Atlas Lions of Morocco Stun Argentina 2-0 to Win First-Ever FIFA U20 World Cup

Morocco etched their name into football history after a stunning 2-0 victory over Argentina in the FIFA U20 World Cup final held in Santiago, Chile. In a night that will be remembered across Africa and the Arab world, the young Atlas Lions displayed remarkable composure, tactical discipline, and clinical finishing to claim their nation’s first-ever U20 world title. Yassir Zabiri emerged as the hero, scoring twice in the first half to silence the defending champions and ignite scenes of jubilation from Casablanca to Rabat.

The young Moroccan side struck early in the 12th minute via Yassir Zabiri’s brilliant free-kick, and Zabiri doubled the lead just 17 minutes later with a close-range finish.

Remarkably, Argentina dominated possession at around 76% but managed only nine shots, while Morocco executed a disciplined, organised defensive display and held firm until the final whistle.

This victory marks Morocco’s first ever U-20 World Cup title, and they become the first Arab nation to lift this trophy.

Their journey to the final included a dramatic semi-final penalty shoot-out win over France and a 3-1 quarter-final win over the USA.
