Former President Uhuru Kenyatta has moved many Kenyans after visiting the family of the late former Prime Minister Raila Odinga just a day after his burial in Siaya County. The touching gesture came shortly after Raila was laid to rest beside his parents at his Kang’o Ka Jaramogi home in Bondo.

Raila, who passed away on October 15 in India after suffering a cardiac arrest, was honored with a 17-gun salute during his burial. The ODM leader had requested to be buried within 72 hours of his death, a wish that was fully respected by his family and the nation.

On Monday, October 20, Uhuru Kenyatta traveled to Siaya, where he visited Raila’s final resting place accompanied by Oburu Odinga and close family members. After paying his respects at the grave, Uhuru proceeded to the Odinga family home at Opoda Farm. There, he was warmly welcomed by Raila’s widow, Ida Odinga, along with their children and relatives. The visit symbolized deep friendship and respect between the two families, a bond that stretches back generations.

How Did Kenyans React to Uhuru’s Visit?

Photos of Uhuru’s visit quickly spread online, sparking heartfelt reactions from Kenyans across social media. Many described his actions as a display of true friendship, compassion, and loyalty during a difficult time for the Odinga family.

Mathews Omondi commented, “His Excellency Mr. President Uhuru Muigai Kenyatta, you are a true friend of Baba and a brother.” Judah Musyoka added, “A friend indeed… that was a priceless gesture.” Lizzy Wayua praised the former president, saying, “This guy has humanity❤️,” while Inocy Patience wrote, “A true friend.”

Others reflected on the long-standing friendship between the Odinga and Kenyatta families. Johnson Kimathi Bundi noted, “But it started with Jaramogi and Jomo. Uhuru and Raila inherited, must show love for sure.”

The visit not only reminded Kenyans of the political camaraderie between the two leaders but also showcased a moment of pure humanity and respect. Uhuru Kenyatta’s gesture, many agreed, was more than political it was a testament to enduring friendship, empathy, and honor.
