A violent domestic confrontation in Mwanyani village, just two kilometres from Machakos town along the Machakos–Kitui road, left two people dead on Monday afternoon.

According to police reports, a middle-aged woman identified as Susan Nyaboke was attacked by a man believed to be known to her. Witnesses said the man assaulted her with a sharp object, inflicting fatal injuries to her neck. Nyaboke, who was reportedly on her way to work, died at the scene.

What Happened After the Attack?

Moments after the attack, members of the public turned on the suspect, beating him to death before police arrived. Officers from the Machakos Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) later recovered a panga and two knives from the scene.

Machakos Sub-County DCIO Nzioka Singi confirmed the incident, saying, “We received a report of a murder incident in Mwanyani. Upon arrival, we found the body of a woman identified as Susan Nyaboke, who was reportedly on her way to work when she was attacked. The suspect, who had no identification documents, was also found dead a short distance away.”

Preliminary investigations suggest the two may have been in a relationship and shared a child. A local bodaboda association official, Allan Musembi, said he found the woman’s body by the roadside and the suspect’s body nearby after the mob attack.

Both bodies were taken to Machakos Level 5 Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examinations as police continue investigations into the tragic incident.
