Jubilee Party Endorses Fred Matiang’i for 2027 Presidential Race

The Jubilee Party has made a decisive political comeback by officially endorsing Dr. Fred Matiang’i, former Interior Cabinet Secretary, as its presidential candidate for the 2027 General Election. The announcement marks a significant step in the party’s bid to reclaim its influence on Kenya’s national political stage.

During the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting, the first since its National Delegates Conference, Secretary General Jeremiah Kioni confirmed that Matiang’i’s presidential application had received unanimous approval from party officials.

“We have received and formally accepted Dr. Fred Matiang’i’s application for his presidential bid, and the NEC has agreed that he carries our flag,” said Kioni.

What Role Will Matiang’i Play in Jubilee’s Future?

In addition to his endorsement, Dr. Matiang’i was appointed Deputy Party Leader, placing him at the heart of Jubilee’s leadership structure. Kioni emphasized that the former Cabinet Secretary will also represent the party “in the united opposition,” signaling Jubilee’s intent to strengthen its collaboration with like-minded political movements.

“We have appointed Dr. Fred Matiang’i as our Deputy Party Leader going forward,” Kioni said. “He will represent Jubilee in the united opposition.”

The NEC meeting also focused on revamping the party’s structure and strategy, particularly at the grassroots level. Kioni stated that Jubilee aims to re-establish its presence nationwide by reopening local branches and engaging both existing and new members. “We now move out to revamp our party, open branches, and reach out to our members and new members,” he added, hinting that more political activities will be announced soon.

What Other Changes Were Made During the NEC Meeting?

The committee also filled several vacant leadership positions within the party. Nakuru Town West MP Samuel Arama was appointed National Assembly Whip, while Senator James Lomenen will serve as Senate Whip.

In a moment of solidarity, the Jubilee Party extended heartfelt condolences to Mama Ida Odinga and her family following their recent loss. “Jubilee Party extends our condolences to the family of Mama Ida Odinga. We stand with the family,” Kioni said.

On the coalition front, Kioni hinted at a potential review of Jubilee’s partnership within the Azimio la Umoja Coalition, noting that any withdrawal must be carefully considered. “Leaving the coalition could have legal implications for some members of Parliament,” he warned.

With Matiang’i now at the center of its strategy, Jubilee is positioning itself as a revitalized political force ahead of 2027, determined to reconnect with its grassroots and reassert its role in Kenya’s shifting political landscape.
