Black Cinderella Reacts After Oga Obinna Wins KSh 6 Million Defamation Lawsuit

Socialite-turned-TikToker Maureen Imbayi, widely known as Black Cinderella, has publicly responded after media personality Oga Obinna won a defamation case against her and Radio Jambo’s Masawe Japani. The ruling, which awarded Obinna KSh 6 million in damages, followed allegations Cinderella made during a past interview, accusing the comedian of assault.
What Led to the KSh 6 Million Court Ruling?
The dispute began a year ago when Cinderella appeared on Masawe Japani’s show, where she accused Obinna of assaulting her. Obinna quickly dismissed the claims, insisting he had never met the socialite. He later sued both Cinderella and the radio host for defamation, citing severe damage to his name and career.
On November 5, Obinna shared his court victory online, celebrating the judgment and revealing that he would receive KSh 6 million from the parties involved. “I will build my house with money from haters. We successfully sued Masawe Japani, Black Cinderella and Radio Jambo for defamation about a year ago, and today we have won. Black Cinderella has been making defamatory remarks about me, knowing we have never met. Masawe had been my colleague at QFM and Radio Africa; she could have just asked me, but she didn’t. I was called all kinds of names online and offline, reputation was soiled. My brand got burnt. They never apologised. Spoke to my lawyer and we went to court,” he wrote.
Obinna also claimed that Cinderella never appeared in court, urging anyone who knew her whereabouts to inform her that the authorities were searching for her.
How Did Black Cinderella Respond to the Court’s Decision?
In a TikTok video, Cinderella addressed the lawsuit in her usual confident tone, declaring she would not run away from the case. She insisted that she planned to declare bankruptcy instead of paying the hefty fine.
“Why should I run? You know when you run signals that you do not want to pay. You stand, pay, and tell Your Honour this is it. I am going to claim bankruptcy. This is the law, and do not run because you do not understand it. I am confirmed bankrupt. I am a cleared bankrupt. There is no property in my name, and I have never been employed anywhere; I do not have a payslip,” she said.
Cinderella added that she earns little from her online content and other side hustles, saying she could only afford to send Obinna whatever small amounts she made. “I do not have properties to sell, to be sending him KSh 6 million,” she added.
Following her remarks, social media users shared mixed reactions. Some mocked her confidence, while others warned that bankruptcy might not exempt her from further legal consequences. One user, @Brian Muga, commented, “If you do not have property, the law requires you to serve in civil jail until the amount is paid. So your family will bear the responsibility.” Others echoed similar sentiments, with comments like “Basi awe prepared kuenda jela” and “Kama huna pesa prepare kuenda jela.”
