Elvis Warutumo Leading Kenya’s AI Revolution among Creators and Entrepreneurs

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is redefining the way people work, learn, and create and at the forefront of this movement in Kenya is Elvis Warutumo Gitau. A tech-savvy influencer and entrepreneur, Elvis has become a key voice promoting AI adoption by educating creators and business owners on how to use the technology to boost productivity and innovation.
Through platforms like TikTok, Elvis simplifies AI concepts and provides practical insights for creators and entrepreneurs eager to embrace digital transformation. Speaking to TUKO.co.ke, he shared his journey, inspirations, and vision for Kenya’s fast-growing AI community.
How did Elvis Warutumo’s AI journey begin?
Elvis’s path to becoming a leading voice in Kenya’s AI space started unexpectedly. “I wouldn’t exactly call myself a business influencer; that is not what I do full-time,” he said. His first experience came when a smartphone company hired him to create a promotional video. That opportunity opened the door to the world of influence.
His focus on AI emerged from his work in web design, where he discovered how artificial intelligence could simplify complex tasks. “I realised how much easier and faster AI made it to create functional websites that solve real problems,” Elvis shared. Witnessing a huge knowledge gap in Kenya, he decided to start teaching others about AI’s potential to change how people work and think.
Elvis’s love for technology began much earlier. “My father was a developer back in the early 2000s, and watching him code sparked my curiosity in tech,” he said. His experience working at a cybercafé also exposed him to early automation tools like AI-powered converters and transcription software, which deepened his interest in the field.
Although he studied Purchasing and Supplies Management, limited job opportunities pushed him to self-teach graphic and web design. That became the foundation of his digital marketing business and later his work in AI advocacy.
How is AI transforming businesses and content creation in Kenya?
Elvis believes AI is already reshaping how Kenyan creators and businesses operate. For creators, it streamlines workflows from idea generation to video editing while for businesses, it cuts down repetitive tasks and lowers technical barriers. “I see a near future where Kenyan creators and entrepreneurs will use AI daily, not to replace their creativity, but to scale it,” he explained.
He challenges the misconception that AI replaces human jobs, insisting that “AI won’t replace humans; people who use AI will replace those who don’t.” For him, AI is an enhancer — a tool to amplify creativity, empathy, and human intuition.
When asked how entrepreneurs can practically use AI, Elvis listed several areas:
Content creation: brainstorming ideas, scripting, and caption writing.
Business automation: generating proposals, analysing data, and client management.
Marketing: campaign creation, analytics tracking, and customer personalisation.
Elvis also dismissed widespread myths, such as “AI will take our jobs” or “AI will kill education.” He believes AI will, instead, make learning more interactive and personalised.
The biggest challenge, he says, lies in changing mindsets. Many people still view AI as intimidating, and Elvis has made it his mission to show that it is accessible to everyone.
For AI to flourish in Kenya, Elvis urges collaboration between government and the private sector. “Both sectors should integrate AI literacy into schools, fund AI-driven projects and startups, and collaborate with local experts and creators,” he said.
As technology evolves, Elvis stays ahead by learning daily through YouTube, tech blogs, and online communities on LinkedIn, TikTok, and X. Looking forward, he envisions himself leading AI implementation and education across Africa: “I aim to build sustainable AI-driven solutions that help individuals, businesses, and institutions work smarter and create impact.”
