Cassypool has officially announced that he intends to contest the Nairobi Governor seat in the 2027 general election, marking one of the most unexpected but widely discussed political declarations of the season. Speaking on the Oga Obinna Show, the internet personality shared that his interest in the county’s top job is genuine and grounded in his belief that leadership should focus on service rather than insults.

Why Is Cassypool Entering the Nairobi Race?

Cassypool made it clear that his approach will not involve attacking the current governor or other competitors. He acknowledged Governor Johnson Sakaja’s work and insisted that his campaign will remain positive.

“Yeah, I’m vying for the governor’s seat. I want to be the governor of Nairobi. I don’t want to talk about Sakaja; he is doing his work. I don’t want to be the type of politician who talks ill of other politicians. Sakaja is working; he is doing his best. Tukutane sisi sote 2027, Sakaja, Babu Owino. So I will not badmouth Sakaja, he is working, and I’ve worked with him on several projects,” Cassypool stated.

In a previous interview, he had spoken even more boldly about the competition:
“Mimi nasimama kuwa Governor wa Nairobi. Bahati ni mtu unahesabu kusimama Governor? Nakuambia watu nitatandika ni Sakaja na Babu Owino.”

His shift toward a more strategic and disciplined tone on the Obinna Show signals a campaign focused on his agenda rather than rivalries.

How Crowded Is the Nairobi Governor Race Shaping Up to Be?

Cassypool joins a fast-growing field of aspirants now eyeing the influential seat. Former Public Service CS Moses Kuria has already declared his intention to run, arguing that Nairobi needs firm leadership to restore order. Embakasi East MP Babu Owino has also announced his bid, stating he will contest even without the backing of his party, ODM.

Journalist and political analyst Tony Gachoka, who joined KANU in mid-2025, has also thrown his hat into the ring. Irungu Nyakera, the Nairobi patron of the Democracy for Citizens’ Party (DCP), has expressed interest as well, although his candidacy remains informal for now.

Current Governor Johnson Sakaja has not formally announced whether he will seek a second term, though many expect him to defend his seat.

With Cassypool’s entry, the 2027 Nairobi gubernatorial race becomes even more competitive. His influence on social media and his promise of a clean, focused campaign position him as a wildcard to watch as the political season gains momentum.
