Geoffrey Mosiria Urges Fathers to Take Responsibility for Their Families

Nairobi County Chief Officer for Citizen Engagement and Customer Service, Geoffrey Mosiria, has called attention to the growing problem of fathers abandoning their families. On Tuesday, December 2, 2025, Mosiria shared the story of a woman who had repeatedly visited his office seeking help to locate her husband, who had left his family without providing any support. Despite court orders and an arrest warrant issued against him, the man has reportedly evaded accountability.
Mosiria explained that the husband, a lawyer, has been “finding his way out illegally,” leaving the woman and her children struggling. The woman asked Mosiria to share her story so that the public could help trace the man and ensure he fulfills his responsibilities. “This lady has visited me several times in my office, crying for help because her husband abandoned her and their children, offering no support at all. Despite having court orders and even an arrest warrant issued against him, the husband, who is a lawyer, has been finding his way out illegally, and nothing has been done to hold him accountable. She requested that I help share her story so that Kenyans can assist in tracing this man and ensure he provides for his family. I truly hope she gets the support she needs,” Mosiria said.
Why is Accountability Important for Fathers?
Mosiria emphasized the emotional and practical toll abandonment takes on families. He noted that when someone capable of providing support chooses to walk away, children often suffer the most. He urged men to remain present and engaged, even when challenges arise. “To all men out there: if you have a family, especially young children, please take responsibility. Do not run away from your duties. A real man never runs away from his responsibility,” he said.
The Chief Officer’s appeal highlights the need for stronger enforcement of family obligations and accountability measures. His call serves as a reminder that fatherhood is not just a legal obligation but a moral and social responsibility. Families rely on the presence, support, and protection of both parents, and Mosiria’s message stresses that avoiding these duties harms not only the immediate household but the broader community as well.
