Environmental activist Truphena Muthoni has firmly addressed growing online claims questioning the legitimacy of her seventy-two-hour tree-hugging world record attempt. The record, which drew widespread attention across Kenya and beyond, has sparked both admiration and skepticism, prompting her to publicly clarify the facts and caution against the spread of false information.

Using her X account on Thursday, December 18, 2025, Truphena directly challenged assertions suggesting that her attempt would not receive approval from Guinness World Records. She made it clear that the process is still underway and that misinformation circulating online does not reflect the actual status of her submission. According to her statement, she is actively uploading the required documentation and evidence to support the record.

“Avoid false information that my world record attempt cannot be approved by Guinness World Records. I’m in the process of uploading my evidence, and in the coming days, it will be published,” she wrote.

Her response struck a calm but assertive tone, reinforcing her commitment to transparency while reminding supporters and critics alike that Guinness World Records follows a structured verification process. By addressing the issue publicly, Truphena positioned herself as both accountable and confident in the integrity of her effort, which was designed to spotlight environmental conservation and climate action.

Why did Truphena Muthoni address misinformation online?

The viral nature of Truphena’s tree-hugging record meant that public scrutiny was inevitable. As conversations intensified online, unverified claims began to circulate, threatening to overshadow the environmental message at the heart of her campaign. By speaking out, she ensured that the narrative remained grounded in facts rather than speculation.

Her clarification also highlighted the often misunderstood timelines involved in global record verification. Guinness World Records requires detailed evidence reviews, and Truphena emphasized that her submission is progressing as expected. This proactive communication helped reinforce trust among her supporters while discouraging the spread of misleading commentary.

Beyond the record itself, her response underscored a broader issue facing activists today. In the digital age, misinformation can quickly dilute meaningful advocacy. Truphena’s approach demonstrated how public figures can responsibly counter false narratives without escalating conflict or distracting from their cause.

What recognition did Truphena receive from President William Ruto?

In the wake of her record attempt going viral, Truphena received significant recognition from the Kenyan government. President William Ruto awarded her the Head of State’s Commendation for her contribution to environmental stewardship. The announcement was made through his official X account on Monday, December 15, 2025, and the award was presented at State House, Nairobi, on the same day.

At the time, President Ruto acknowledged that her seventy-two-hour effort was a symbolic act meant to raise national and global awareness about climate change and conservation. He further elevated her role by appointing her as an Ambassador of the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, a flagship initiative aimed at safeguarding Kenya’s environmental future.

“In recognition of her courage, fortitude, and laudable leadership, I have appointed her as an Ambassador of the 15 Billion Tree Planting Campaign, a signature national initiative dedicated to securing Kenya’s environmental future,” Ruto added.

Additional recognition followed, including a fully sponsored holiday experience extended to Truphena and her team by the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Kenya Tourism Board. The President also announced government support for her dream to visit Brazil, expanding her exposure to global conservation initiatives.

“In further appreciation of her inspiring efforts, the Kenya Wildlife Service and the Kenya Tourism Board have extended to her and her team a fully sponsored holiday experience,” Ruto added.

“In addition, the Ministry of Environment, Climate Change, and Forestry will support the realization of her dream to visit Brazil, broadening her exposure to global conservation initiatives and environmental leadership,” Ruto announced.
