Mbeumo Brace Seals Manchester United’s Third Straight Win in Thrilling 4-2 Victory Over Brighton

Manchester United’s resurgence under coach Ruben Amorim continued in style as Bryan Mbeumo’s double, alongside goals from Matheus Cunha and Casemiro, powered them to a 4-2 win over Brighton & Hove Albion at Old Trafford on Saturday, their third consecutive Premier League victory.

Building on last weekend’s historic triumph at Anfield, Cunha opened the scoring in the 24th minute with a stunning strike into the bottom corner, his first goal for United. Casemiro doubled the lead 10 minutes later with a deflected effort, before Mbeumo’s composed finish shortly after the hour mark put the hosts firmly in control.

Brighton threatened a late fightback as Danny Welbeck curled home a sublime free kick against his former club, and Charalampos Kostoulas added a stoppage-time header to set up a tense finale. But with the visitors pushing bodies forward, Mbeumo sealed the points with a fierce strike into the roof of the net.

The win lifted United to fourth in the table, while Brighton remained 12th.

“I’m enjoying it here,” Mbeumo told Sky Sports. “It wasn’t easy at first, new expectations, a new environment, but we’re starting to click. The togetherness and work rate are what drive us. I came to a big club to fight for big things.”

Saturday’s fixture was seen as a major test for Amorim’s improving side. Brighton have been a difficult opponent for United in recent years, winning more games against them than any other Premier League side since 2021. But Amorim’s men showed growing confidence, following their Anfield win with another statement performance.

United were dominant for much of the match, with Cunha’s precision and Casemiro’s influence driving play. Mbeumo, who also scored against Liverpool, once again proved decisive in attack.

However, defensive lapses allowed Brighton back into the contest,  a reminder that United remains a work in progress. Still, Amorim will take pride in his team’s resilience and attacking fluency as they recorded three straight league wins for the first time since August 2024.

“We put ourselves in a difficult position,” admitted Brighton’s Welbeck. “But we showed character to fight back. It didn’t happen today, but that spirit will help us going forward.”
