NPS Announces 2025 Police Recruitment Date After Winning Mandate Dispute

The National Police Service (NPS) has officially announced that its 2025 nationwide recruitment exercise for Police Constables will take place on Monday, November 17, 2025, from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. across all counties. The announcement follows a legal showdown that clarified which agency has the constitutional authority to oversee the process.
Why Did NPS Take Over the Recruitment Process?
The recruitment comes after a court battle between the NPS and the National Police Service Commission (NPSC) over who holds the legal mandate to conduct the exercise. Initially, the NPSC had scheduled the recruitment between October 3 and October 9, 2025, intending to enlist 10,000 new officers. However, the Employment and Labour Relations Court temporarily halted the process on October 2, citing questions of legality.
On October 30, 2025, the High Court declared the NPSC’s recruitment advertisement unconstitutional, ruling that the authority to conduct police recruitment rests solely with the National Police Service. This decision paved the way for NPS to announce a new date and take full control of the exercise.
Inspector General Douglas Kanja Kirocho, in his Tuesday statement, reaffirmed that the upcoming recruitment will be conducted transparently and fairly, urging all qualified Kenyans to take part.
Who Qualifies for the 2025 NPS Recruitment?
To qualify, applicants must be Kenyan citizens aged between 18 and 28 years and hold a valid National ID card. A minimum grade of D+ in KCSE is required, along with a clean criminal record. Candidates must also meet physical standards: males should be at least 1.7 meters tall (5ft 8in), and females at least 1.6 meters (5ft 3in).
Applicants must be physically and mentally fit, while female candidates are required not to be pregnant at the time of recruitment or during training.
The NPS has also encouraged National Youth Service (NYS) graduates to apply, noting that preference will be given to those with a minimum conduct rating of “Good.”
Inspector General Kanja emphasized that the recruitment exercise is free of charge, warning against bribery or corruption. “The recruitment process is open to all eligible Kenyans and will be conducted with integrity,” he stated.
This announcement marks a significant moment for both aspiring officers and the NPS, as the service moves to strengthen its ranks under clear legal authority and renewed commitment to fairness.
