Gen Z Entrepreneur Leaves Ruto Laughing with Hilarious Twist on His Chicken-Selling Story

A young entrepreneur from Kanduyi Constituency, Bungoma County, left President William Ruto and the audience in stitches after revealing that he borrowed inspiration from the president’s famous chicken-selling story to start his own business.
Speaking during the launch of the NYOTA Project at the Mumias Sports Complex in Kakamega County on Friday, November 7, 2025, Isaac Juma Busoro shared how he used support from the Kenya Youth Employment Opportunities Project (KYEOP) to kickstart his journey as a business owner.
How Did the Youth Draw Inspiration from Ruto’s Story?
Busoro explained that after completing business training under KYEOP in 2022, he received a KSh18,000 grant to start a venture. Unsure what business to pursue, he looked to the president’s personal story for guidance.
“Your Excellency, my dear president. Naitwa Isaac Juma Busoro. Natoka pale Bungoma, Kanduyi Constituency. Mimi nimekua beneficiary wa KYEOP ambayo ilikua 2021/2022. Tulifundishwa about business training. When we finished that course, we were given Ksh18,000. I wondered what business I could start with Ksh18,000. But then I decided to challenge my president, who was a chicken seller. I ventured into pig farming,” Busoro said, sparking laughter from the crowd and the president.
He went on to share that his commitment to the business later earned him and his group another KSh20,000 grant to expand their pig farming project. Busoro credited his growing success to Ruto’s motivational journey and the government’s youth empowerment initiatives, noting that the programs had transformed his outlook on entrepreneurship.
What Did President Ruto Promise Young Entrepreneurs?
In his response, President William Ruto praised Busoro’s creativity and determination, commending him for turning inspiration into tangible success. He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to supporting young people across Kenya through the NYOTA Fund, which was officially launched during the event.
“Apart from qualifying for the initial Ksh25,000, we will walk with you on your journey until you can qualify for up to Ksh200,000,” Ruto stated.
He also stressed that the NYOTA Fund would be inclusive, extending support to Persons with Disabilities and refugees, ensuring that no group is left behind. “In our society, we often forget those at the bottom of the pyramid, and this fund is designed to ensure that no one is left behind,” he said.
Ruto further announced that the government plans to sponsor 90,000 young people to acquire skills and certifications in various technical fields. “Young people, whether they’ve gone to school or not, will benefit from this initiative. We will cover their training and certification costs and provide a stipend to support them throughout the program because we want to lift everybody,” he added.
The event drew hundreds of enthusiastic youth from across western Kenya, many of whom shared success stories from other government-supported empowerment projects, signaling a growing wave of optimism among the country’s young entrepreneurs.
