Bahati Responds After Man Claims to Be His Biological Father

Kenyan singer Bahati has addressed the viral claims made by an elderly man on TikTok who alleged he is the musician’s biological father. The man shared an emotional video saying he gave Bahati up many years ago because he lacked the means to raise him. The situation escalated quickly when the musician’s name trended across platforms, drawing mixed reactions from fans and the general public.
Bahati reacted through an Instagram post shared on Wednesday, December 3, 2025, where he firmly asked those involved to stop dragging his late parents into public conversations. He wrote, “Lakini wacheni jokes. Wacheni wazazi wangu wa pumzike kwa amani.”
What sparked the emotional claims circulating online?
In the elderly man’s video, he explained that financial struggles forced him to take Bahati to a children’s home, believing it was the only way the child would survive. He said, “Bahati, I am asking for your forgiveness. I am your father, and since I saw that I was not capable of raising you, I decided to take you to a children’s home. I knew it would be good for you because if I threw you away, you probably would not be alive.”
He further claimed that Bahati’s mother is still alive and had also appeared online searching for him. He added, “Your mum is also still alive, and you will see her on social media looking for you. I am your father, and I am sixty-nine years old. Even if it is a DNA test, we will do it. I am asking for your forgiveness. I stay in Western.”
The situation intensified when a woman in another viral TikTok video also claimed to be Bahati’s mother. She said she took him to a children’s home due to lack of resources. She stated, “Bahati, mimi ni mama yako, nakuja mbele yako kukuomba msamaha, although uliambiwa mama yako alikufa. Mimi nilikuzaa na nikakupeleka children’s home. Sikuwa na uwezo, ndo maana nikakupeleka children’s home.”
She revealed she had kept the secret for years and was ready to meet him and undergo a DNA test.

How has Bahati processed the unexpected revelations?
Bahati shared that he was shocked by the woman’s claims because he personally attended his mother’s burial more than twenty-five years ago. He wrote, “But my mum died over twenty-five years ago. I personally attended the burial and witnessed her grave. This woman has confused me more. So what should I do?”
He later clarified that the unfolding drama was not a publicity stunt, saying, “Kenyans najua mimi ni king wa kiki, nimewapiganga vipindi miaka mingi, I confess, lakini ya huyu sihusiki.” He revealed that his older brother had informed him that the woman had been trying to reach the family for five years, which made the situation even more emotional.
Bahati admitted that the possibility of his mother being alive would turn his life upside down. He said he was struggling to process the revelations while also guiding his children through the confusion. He shared, “What if my mother is alive? I think that would change my life forever, so I will not brush it off. Maybe mimi hukuwa Mluyha na si Mkamba. I attended my mother’s funeral, I witnessed her being buried. I do not know, should I pursue this, get DNA? I do not even have the woman’s contact.”
