Former Lugari MP Cyrus Jirongo to Be Buried on December 30

Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo will be laid to rest at his Lumakanda family home on Tuesday, December 30, the family has confirmed. The announcement was made on Sunday by a funeral committee chaired by former MP Fred Gumo, following a consultative meeting with family and close associates.

Speaking on behalf of the committee, Senator Khaniri stated that Jirongo will be buried at his homestead, alongside his parents. “We have constituted a committee to coordinate the funeral arrangements for our brother,” he said. “We have agreed, tentatively, that the burial will take place on December 30, and that he will be laid to rest at his Lumakanda home beside his father and mother.”

What led to Cyrus Jirongo’s death?

Jirongo passed away in a tragic road accident in the early hours of Saturday, December 13. Reports indicate that he was driving to his rural home in Lugari when his vehicle was involved in a head-on collision with a Climax Coach bus along the Nairobi–Nakuru Highway.

Naivasha DCIO Isaac Kiama confirmed the accident, stating that the former legislator died on the spot at around 3 a.m. The incident shocked many, as Jirongo was a well-known public figure who had remained active in political circles long after leaving elective office.
