VJ Patelo, the groom at the center of Kenya’s most buzzed-about wedding, has stirred conversation after claiming that his union with Diana, aka Dee, cost over KSh 500 million. The flamboyant internet personality made the bold declaration during an interview with Oga Obinna, where he gave a detailed (and hard-to-believe) breakdown of the wedding expenses.
What did VJ Patelo say about the wedding’s cost?
“We are inventors and influencers. We know how things go, and we split the duties,” Patelo told Obinna. Asked how much they spent on the wedding, he answered without hesitation: “It cost around KSh 500 million.” Obinna, clearly stunned, reacted with disbelief. “You are lying to me. That’s half a billion!” Patelo didn’t flinch, insisting that it may have cost even more.
How was the KSh 500 million spent?
According to Patelo, the massive budget covered everything from exotic décor to imported delicacies. “The cars. Did you see the high-end vehicles that we used? The venue, food, guests, the décor, and everything. Invitation cards, the photography, our looks. We even had seafood. My friends piled their plates; some were eating kebab and rice,” he said.
Dee chimed in that her wedding dress, imported from Dubai, cost KSh 1.6 million. Patelo revealed his own suit cost KSh 1.7 million, while his best man’s was even pricier at KSh 2.2 million. “That’s why I was running when they were pouring juice on me, because it’s expensive,” he joked.
He also claimed their wedding cake was shipped in from Dubai and featured a built-in lighting system. Their wedding rings? A cool KSh 1.5 million. Patelo further added that his silver teeth were worth KSh 300,000, and his silver chains cost KSh 4.2 million. When asked about walking around with such valuables, he responded casually, “We walk everywhere. Eastlands is ours.”
How did Kenyans react to the wedding claims?
Many social media users didn’t hold back their opinions. While some admired the couple’s confidence, others called out the figures as exaggerated. One user commented, “He thinks he’s been asked about Tanzania’s currency,” while another said, “I had trusted Patelo and Dee, but after the interview, lied 99%.”
Still, others found humor and admiration in the couple’s flamboyance. “I just love them,” one user wrote. Another added, “You see how this girl is chill and calm; she’s just letting the man do the talking. She’s so feminine and calm.”
The wedding itself was anything but ordinary. A viral clip showed the bride running to embrace Patelo, only for him to sprint away, sending guests into laughter. In another video, Patelo was seen staggering down the aisle, flanked by his parents. Whether chaotic or iconic, one thing’s certain: the wedding of Patelo and Dee has left a lasting impression.
